Dear TV

A mind-blowing song and lyrics from Tablo. Brief introduction: he is a famous Korean rapper and also part of a hip-hop group Epik High. To be honest I didn't really catch the actual meaning of this song until I read some reviews on web. This part 'I'm looking for nirvana but you Geffenize me', I didn't even know that word of geffenize and I found nothing on dictionary. Then I found this explanation from here: This line refers to Geffen, record label for the rock band Nirvana - a label that some Nirvana fans felt the band had to sacrifice their creative vision for.

And here it is, my simple thought about the meaning of this song:
I think this song is about how media really affecting people's mind and thoughts about everything. How media reports everything the way they want and make people believe it. The world is your aphrodisiac, so you stay turned on every minute every second I breathe. Nah, because I'm pretty sure that Tablo wrote this album based on his true feelings after the controversy and his life as an artist, I think that line refers to how media never sleeps, always watching his moves and waiting for his mistakes or glory so they can report it straight away... and sometimes they portray it wrong. If a heaven is a show, well televise me. It tells that media reports everything, every details that you might never thought they would know. Then it ends with don't act like you know me 'cause you recognize me, you sell my record me. Just because we see him performing on TV or reading news about him on papers, it doesn't mean we know him. Like I first said, sometimes media tells the turn-around facts, exaggerating things, so as long as we don't reaaaally know him (like, in person), we basically know nothing about him.

This song is very short -only 44 seconds. I like this song because it's different and it sounds sincere. Plus, from this song, I learn a lot of new words -some of them I've never heard before. Thank you, Tablo. Well no wonder since he graduated from Stanford (English Literature major!)...

Enjoy!

Tablo . Fever's End PART 2
Dear TV,
Desensitize me.
Gimme more genocide please.
The world is your aphrodisiac,
so you stay turned on every minute,
every second I breathe.
You weaponize greed,
kill me with incessant I need.
Got me checkin' out those,
and checkin' out these.
Mainstream me, disinfectin' my breed.
I'm lookin' for nirvana but you Geffenize me.
Point me to the skies till heaven's eye bleeds.
Anoint me with your lies then divinize me.
If heaven is a show, well, televise me.
But I won't lie my way in, no fakin' IDs.
I'll die standin'. Try breakin my knees.
I'll do a handstand like I'm breakin'.
Now freeze. Don't act like you know me 'cause you recognize me.
You sell my record, not me.

NOTE: I got the picture of Tablo above from this article of WIRED. The controversy I mentioned above is Tablo's Stanford degree controversy, which I previously mentioned in my article on this blog. I suggest you to read that WIRED article to know more about it.
